Awayter participates in DIGIREU to promote the reuse of chemical packaging through data.

Proyecto DIGIREU_Awayter AEI

At Awayter, we continue to take on new challenges in industrial digitalization and the circular economy. We are participating in DIGIREU, a project led by the Clúster Químic de les Illes Balears (CliQIB), which has been selected by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism under the 2026 funding call supporting Innovative Business Clusters (AEI).

The initiative aims to lay the groundwork for new systems for reusing chemical product packaging by combining research, traceability, and data-driven insights. For Awayter, it represents an opportunity to apply our expertise in industrial digitalization to a specific challenge: turning data into valuable information to give packaging a new life.

Understanding a package’s history to determine its next use.

Reusing chemical packaging requires understanding its condition and assessing whether it can safely re-enter the production cycle. Simply recovering it is not enough: its condition, cleaning and reconditioning processes, and the requirements it must meet for reuse all need to be evaluated.

DIGIREU will investigate these aspects to develop a circular management methodology that helps determine when packaging can be reused, what repair options are available, and in which cases recycling is the most suitable alternative.

Traceability is an essential part of this work. Recording and structuring the information generated throughout the packaging lifecycle will help explore how to support these decisions and improve coordination among the different stakeholders involved.

Awayter’s contribution: Turning data into valuable insights

At Awayter, we will lead the collection and structuring of the data that will feed into the digital platform. We will work on defining data models, operational indicators, and analytical methods to help improve traceability and packaging reuse processes.

Our role focuses on identifying which information is relevant, how to organize it, and how to analyze it to support decision-making. We will also contribute to validating the results and defining criteria for applying the lessons learned to new applications within the sector.

The project aims to generate knowledge and establish a methodological foundation for future circular management systems. Therefore, data-related activities must be closely aligned with the real needs of those involved in manufacturing, distributing, recovering, and managing this packaging.

A collaborative project to advance the circular economy

DIGIREU brings together CliQIB, Packaging Cluster, AIMPLAS, Adalmo, Comercial Distribuidora Puig, Blue Room Innovation and Awayter. Collaboration between industry organizations, technology specialists, and companies across the value chain will make it possible to address the challenge from multiple perspectives: technical, operational, environmental, regulatory, and digital.

At Awayter, we remain committed to connecting technology and industry to unlock the value of data and drive more efficient and sustainable processes. With DIGIREU, we take another step forward in applying digitalization to the circular economy.

Because to give packaging a new life, we first need to understand its history. And data is key to making that possible.
